| Shields celebrate another hockey season in style Proceedings started at 11 am with the club's Annual General Meeting attended by well over 45 club members. Club Chairman David Yellowley reported on the club's sixth year and first XI Captain Mick Riding detailed their first season in Division 1, finishing 6th and said: "Each and every one has played a part in this and I hope are as proud as I am of how far we have come". The events continued with a very competitive mixed game between the Chairman's XI and Secretary's XI and members then retired to the Bell and Bucket for the presentation of annual trophies. Award winners included players of the season Jordan Bell (1st XI), Kieran Conway (2nd XI), Neil McCudden (3rd XI) and Zoe Scott (Ladies XI). Billy Sowter picked up a deserved Chairman's trophy for his efforts both on and off the pitch.. Ladies Captain, Beth Priestley said "North Shields Ladies always manage to stay positive and continue to demonstrate astounding resilience in the face of adversity. The importance of this characteristic of our team cannot be underestimated in terms of the impact it has on our high spirits and our continued success". Meanwhile a joint North Shields and Tynedale team remain unbeaten in their fixtures of the summer Masters League with wins against Morpeth Reivers, Tynemouth, Gateshead and Morpeth. A programme of summer hockey and events has been lined up to maintain the momentum. Anybody is welcome, particularly beginners. If you are interested do not hesitate to contact our Club Secretary. |
